Weapons!
Concept Art for the weapons are finished. Next semester will be mostly modeling and texturing based off of these concept sketches. Next post will include links to all six classes and their tiered weapons!

Some Sketches (Flourishing Series - Forest Mender)
First three evolutions of the Flourishing series for the Forest Mender class.
Flourishling Sap

Flourishling

Flourishing Fury

Notice the use of bumps and cracks in the branch that causes the form to take shape. The next two evolutions will add more features, and give the Flourishing Staff an epic feel!

Janta Galaxy Additional Characters
Change in Direction (For the Better)
After giving it much thought, I have decided to change gears; however, I would not consider these last few weeks to be a loss. Not only has the opportunity to begin modeling my characters from the Janta world been exciting, but has also provided me much needed learning into the modeling process. From this point forward, I will begin a database of game items for classes that I have created. These classes are as follows:
~Etherealists: Followers of the universe, these benevolent followers of the skies use the power of the moon, stars, and planets to bend healing spells to their will.
~Desert Stalker: Quiet followers of the earth, this class has studied for centuries the evolution and creation of their planet. Martial in style, desert stalkers wear heavy armor and engage in melee combat. Expect to see most armor and weapons to be consistent with lava, rock, and earth.
~Forest Mender: Living for centuries in the tranquility of the forest, the Forest Mender gathers natural energy from the foliage and fauna. Feral in nature, Forest Menders are strong in both melee and nature-based combat, but are masters of neither.
~Destronomer: Taking pride in the deaths of their enemies, destronomers seek blood and carnage above all else. Using the remains of the fallen, this class not only channels their energy from the remains but use these parts to create their armor, giving them unlimited access to the power of the dead.
~Storm Warden: Once considered etherealists, these outcasts found the destruction and tranquility of air, rain, and electricity to be almost too powerful to not conjure. Storm Wardens are full spell casters, and channel the energy of viscous storms to slay their foe.
~ Seeker: Hermits by nature, seekers spend their entire life meditating and practicing the art of channeling inner energy to unleash upon anyone unfortunate enough to pass them. Seekers do not start conflict, but if provoked, can unleash fury upon their enemy only found in the inner soul of all.
NOTE: All items will be based around these six classes. Items in all slots will work on a tiered system. A Storm Warden, for example, may choose to conjure rain, air, or electricity, and each of these can power their armor and weapons.
Below you will find icons for both the Destronomer and Forest Mender; the rest of the icons will follow shortly after. More to come!

Early Box Model + Some Sculpt
Sculpting is not nearly finished, but wanted to give you a feel for what one of the characters, the Kinshay, will look like.

Beta bestiary
Although not complete in any sense, this is early documentation providing a glimpse into planet Ikin. Only two creatures are listed so far, and are not nearly detailed to their fullest as of this moment. Expect to see more on this bestiary and environment documentation, as well as some storyboards relating to my cinematic, in the next few days.

ENVIRONMENT AND SPECIES DOCUMENTATION
Matt P. Oelker
Environment
Planet Ikin lies within the Janta Galaxy, surrounded by asteroid belts and remnants of ancient civilized planets. On occasion, rampant ominous storms appear within several thousand miles from this docile planet, causing shifts within the planet’s magnetic field. Because of this, the planet is constantly under the effects of permafrost, although not in the sense that humans would understand. In permafrost, the air particles become so cold that the air takes on a chemical makeup similar to what we would consider water. However, this atmosphere does not hinder the breathing patterns of its inhabitants, simply because evolution has allowed the beings to adjust to the world in which they reside. The majority of Ikin’s inhabitants breathe in the form of crystallized bubbles, which are released from the body and immediately freeze.
The majority of Ikin’s inhabitants are docile creatures. However, within the last century, a particularly hostile storm caused a shift in the genetic makeup of the dominant creature of Ikin, the Kinshay. The Kinshay have, until recently, primarily feasted upon the fungus like creatures that promote a livable atmosphere in this permafrost environment and give the atmosphere its violet hue. However, recently the Kinshay have sparked a war amongst the other creatures, using their sharp teeth and suction-like appendages to grab and maim their targets. Sadly, in its current state, the future of the creatures and their planet’s survival looks bleak.
Creature Statistics
NOTE: All creatures have the ability to “fly,” or maneuver through this unique planets atmospheric makeup. However, due to the anatomy and mass restrictions of certain species, some can transcend much higher than others.
Kinshay – Dominant creature of planet Ikin, until recently these creatures lived harmoniously with the other creatures. Kinshay move on all four of its limbs, using suction like feet and hands to not only grab onto foliage and navigate the realm, but also to capture prey, much like a spider’s nest. Kinshay use their massive tail to maneuver through the atmosphere, although cannot ascend higher than 1,000 feet, as their body mass weighs them down.
Boklings – These cute, docile creatures used to live harmoniously with the Kinshay, and until recently, used to have a friendship with the more dominant species. However, because of circumstance, the Boklings have made a new home in the skies of planet Ikin. In certain areas of the atmosphere, most notably seen 5,000 to 10,000 feet above the ground, the influx of the magnetic field has frozen the atmosphere permanently where the concentration was the greatest. These areas are crystallized havens, and provide the boklings temporary haven from the Kinshay. However, due to the nature of the planet and galaxy, these homes are known to vaporize and reform in other areas of the sky. This process has proven to be fatal for some boklings, as the formations of these crystallized areas sometimes appear without warning and can shred a bokling into pieces, trapping their remains in a frozen tomb.
Boklings are very light, allowing these Ikin beings to ascend as high as 25,000 feet above the ground. However, their main source of food, the fungus-like creatures, remains attached to the planet’s ground, where the Kinshay like in great numbers.

Primary Entry and Information
As I have met with my mentor and Professor, Mat Powers, two days ago, I would say this post is starting two days late. What is life without variation? Anyways, this blog will be dedicated to the journey from the beginning of my Independent Study on 3D modeling and texturing to the end of my Capstone Project, that being a cinematic involving creatures developed in my mind. Early notes:
1. Write up an early edition of a bible, including all of the details on what I want from this project, how I want it to feel, and what will be learned through the process.
2. Create storyboards depicting the actual movement and flow of the cinematic. These storyboards, as always, are subject to change.
3. Draw up sketches of my creations, particularly the protagonist, antagonist, and tertiary characters (what we like to refer to as the "fraggle rock" characters, due to their insignificance in the storyline.)
I will possibly post my document and storyboards online, but if not, I will definitely post the sketches of the characters within a week or so. Keep an eye out for them! They should be interesting (and very rough).
